The Camp GTBank Football Development programme commenced on the 20th August 2017 and ended on 28th August 2017 at Greensrpings School, Lekki. The camp brought together 36 A-List players and 6 top Coaches from the GTBank Football Tournaments – GTBank – Lagos State Principals Cup, GTBank – Ogun State Principals Cup and GTBank Masters Cup.
THE PRESS CONFERENCE
On the 21st of August, a press conference was held at the Assembly Hall of Greensprings School to officially kick off the 5th Edition of the Camp GTBank. The dignitaries at the event were – Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi (Chairman, Lagos State Football Association), Tolulope Onipede (Corporate Communications and External Affairs Group, GTBank), Alhaja R.O. Yusuf (Chairman, LAFGHECA), Alhaja Olabisi Balogun (Deputy Director, Lagos State Ministry of Education), Mr Yomi Bajela (Director, Admin & Supply, Ministry of Sports, Ogun State), Dotun Coker (Lagos State Football Association) and Jimmy Sogbesan (COO, Mediavision Limited).
Further to this, the appointed Ex-internationals for the Camp GTBank were present at the press conference, Head Coach – Augustine Eguavoen, Henry Nwosu MON, Waidi Akanni, Yisa Sofoluwe, Ann Chiejine, Ajuma Ottache, and Mr Jolomi Atune (U-15 Coach, Future Eaglets)
At the press conference, the profile of the coaches and camp attendees was unveiled. Mrs. Tolulope Onipede gave a brief rundown of the Camp Programme stating that the camp attendees will learn football basics and participate in character building activities.
Mr. Jimmy Sogbesan thanked dignitaries present while emphasizing the importance each person and organization has played over the years in ensuring the success of GTBank Football Tournaments and Camp GTBank.
The vote of thanks was delivered by a camp attendee – Lamidi Toyeebat who commended GTBank for the initiative.
CAMPING EXPERIENCE
CLASSROOM SESSION/ TEAM BUILDING
The classroom session was a one hour session anchored by the Head Coach. The students were introduced to the theoretical aspect of the game of football. During the camp, the students learnt about: Football Definitions, Self-Discipline, importance of education, Laws of the Game, Team Function, System of Play and Team Building and Decision making.
FIELD SESSION
The students had two field sessions in a day. During the session, they practiced various techniques which include; Ball Concentration, Ball Receiving and Turning Techniques, Passing Techniques, Ball Control and Position Training, Accurate Ball Pass Training, Speed and Agility Training, Football formations and Field Games.
FRIENDLY MATCH
Friendly matches were organized to assess the football skills of the camp attendees. It also gave the students a platform practice what they had learnt during their training sessions.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
During the GTBank Camp, the students had other fun activities like Board Games, Swimming, Movie Night, and Excursion to Lekki Conservation Centre.
COACHING SEMINAR
A coaching seminar was organized for 60 selected coaches from the GTBank Football Tournaments. It was a two-day event which held on Wednesday, 23rd and Thursday 24th August 2017 at Block C, Greensprings School, Lekki. The topics discussed were: First Aid Course – Dr. Bukola Bojuwoye (Lagos State Sports Commission), Laws of the Game – Ganiyu Yusuf (Lagos State Referees Council), Sports Psychology – Dr Kayode Michael (Director of Sports Medicine, Lagos State Sports Commission), Child Protection – Mr Taiwo Akinlami, and Football Strategy in the 21st Century – Augustine Eguavoen.
Mr Jide Sipe from GTBank presented certificates to the participants at the end of the coaching seminar.
VARIETY NIGHT
The variety night was an opportunity to commend camp attendees & the coaches, award exceptional students and display of other talents asides football.
