The GTBank Super Cup is the capstone of the GTBank Football Tournaments – GTBank Principals Cup (Lagos and Ogun) and GTBank Masters Cup. After an exciting 2016/2017 season of GTBank Football Tournaments – The champions (Male & Female Categories) of the Gtbank Football Tournaments were brought together for the ultimate competition to crown the Champion of Champions.
The GTBank Super Cup Finals were held at Agege Stadium, Agege on Wednesday, 6th December 2017.
In the 2015 Super Cup tournament, the winners emerged from the Ogun State Principals Cup. The Champion schools were Pakoto High School, Ifo and Muslim High School, Isolu in the male and female category respectively. This year, Pakoto High School, Ifo also made it to the finals.
The GTBank Super Cup finals kicked off with the female match between Iko Gateway Grammar School, Idiroko and Isale Eko Grammar School, Lagos Island. The battle between the Ogun and Lagos based teams respectively was a tough one which saw Iko Gateway Grammar School defeated Isale Eko Grammar School 2 goals to nil in the preliminaries stage. Both teams did well to prove their worth in front of a tensed crowd, until a goal was scored by Owolarafe Mariam from Isale Eko Grammar School at the 50th minute of the game. Iko Gateway pressed forward to get an equalizer but they could not get pass the defenders of Isale Eko Grammar School. In the end, the whistle was blown and Isale Eko Grammar School emerged as the champions of the GTBank Super Cup Female Category.
The male match commenced shortly after the female match, Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School who had won their match against Pakoto High School with one goal to nil during the preliminaries, once again clashed at the final and this time the Super Cup trophy was at stake.
Both teams started strong and the first goal was scored by Odebiyi Habeeb from Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School with just 13 minutes into the game. Pakoto High School responded swiftly, netting an equalizer which was scored by Adeyemi Ayomide in the 19th minute of the game. Into the second half, Odubiyi Joseph slotted in an all important goal for Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School which saw them clinch the GTBank Super Cup 2017 edition.
