- The X Games: The first X Games was held in 1995 on Rhode Island the event has grown to become the premier extreme sports showcase in the world. Events include variations on motocross, rally, skateboarding and BMX. The competition often features first-time executed tricks such as Tony Hawke’s 900 in skateboarding, Anthony Napolitan’s first double front flip on a bicycle, Travis Pastana’s double backflip in freestyle motocross. The competition has been expanded to Barcelona Spain, Munich Germany and Foz do Iguacçu, Brazil to host X Games along with Los Angeles, Aspen and Tignes to form a six-event calendar.
- Hell’sGateIlCiocco,Tuscany,Italy
Tucked away in the picturesque mountains of Tuscany is one of the world’s most difficult Enduro races known as Hell’s Gate. The race was designed in 2006 by the legendary Fabio Fasola who intended to separate the good Enduro racers from the amazing. Hell’s Gate continues to serve its purpose every year, and in 2010 alone, just two of the 103 participants were able to complete the course. - 24 Hours of Le Mans, Le Mans, France: The legendary 24-hour race is the ‘Grand Prix’ of car endurance racing. It is the oldest active race of its kind and commands a fanatical following. The challenges of the race involve managing the technical stresses on the car particularly the engine, tires and brakes over the course of 24 hours non-stop racing. The driving is shared among the three-man team.
- Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race – Anchorage to Nome, Alaska, United States: “The Last Great Race on Earth,” the Iditarod Trail started out as a supply route. In 1925, when diphtheria broke out in Nome, 20 mushers and 150 dogs rushed to deliver the antiserum from Anchorage. Every year since 1973, mushers from all over the world and their teams of 12-16 dogs prepare for 1,150 miles of snowy tundra, impenetrable forest and rocky terrain.
- M Xtreme Games – Lagos, Nigeria: Started in 2014, the M Xtreme Games which comprise events in roller skating, BMX Biking, Skateboarding and Unicycling is the flagship event in the extreme sports calendar in Nigeria.
The first event of the 2016 M Xtreme Games calendar will hold on March 19 and it will be the first of four M Xtreme Games events scheduled for the year.
