The final group stage matches of the Nigeria Bankers Games took place on Saturday 8th November 2014 and witnessed 3 matches with huge significance. There was the Ecobank vs Stanbic-IBTC and the Heritage Bank vs Skye Bank game in group A with ECOBANK, Stanbic-IBTC and Heritage Bank all playing for 3rd and 4th place. In group B, Standard Chartered Bank and Sterling Bank were squaring off in a tie to see who avoids Skye Bank in the quarter finals.

ECOBANK were able to secure a comfortable and convincing 3 – 1 win to tie down the 3rd place in group A, while Stanbic-IBTC had to wait for the outcome of the Heritage, Skye Bank game to know their fate. A win of any shade was all Heritage Bank needed, but achieving that for a team yet to score in the competition and against a side that is yet to lose in 20 games was nigh impossible. You can make that 21 as 2 late goals by Seun Mohammed saw off Heritage Bank to the huge relief of a highly tensed Stanbic-IBTC team that stayed back to see the game.

The other game between Standard Chartered Bank and Sterling was very exciting, but failed to produce goals. This meant that Standard Chartered Bank and Sterling Bank finished in 3rd and 4th place respectively.
