The 7th edition of the PwC Chess4change programme kicked off with a press conference on Thursday 24th March, 2022 at PwC Training School Victoria Island Lagos.

 

18 schools from 4 Education District participated in the programme.

The Dignitaries present at the event were;

  • Delia Asuzu – Senior Manager and Head, Marketing and Communications, PwC
  • Tokunbo Fagun – Chairman, Lagos State Chess Association
  • Mrs Oluwasanmi Oluyomi – Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC)

Mr Pedro Omontuemhen, noted that chess can lead to a change and expressed his happiness at the impact that the game of chess has had in the lives of the students academically and socially. He further reiterated PwC’s commitment to the sponsorship of Chess4Change initiative while also urging other companies to emulate PwC.

Dr. (Mrs) Oluwasanmi in her remark said Chess4Change initiative aligns with the Lagos State Sports Commission vision which is to build a strong foundation for a sustainable and viable sports culture and a vibrant industry that generates social and economic value for Lagos and Lagosians. Notable remark from Dr. Mrs Oluwasanmi; “stay in school, stay in sports”.

 

 

                           TOP EXECUTIVES                                                   PRESENTATION OF CHESS SETS AND CHESS CLOCKS

The Chess4change programme has immensely impacted on the academics, social interactions and confidence level of the students. Schools have also benefitted through gifts won and donations of chess equipment.

The 7th edition was loaded with Informative, Educative and Exciting programmes;

  • INFORMATIVE: A product of the PwC Chess4Change initiative Jessica Pelemoh was at the Mentorship programme to share her chess story with the students. Two (2) international Chess Masters, Femi Balogun – Former 2 time national Chess champion and Okeke Isaac were present at the Grand Slam Tournament. They both shared their chess stories as well career possibilities of the game.
