The Press Conference for the 3rd edition of the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Chess4Change program was held on Tuesday, 8 November 2016 at the Landmark Towers, Oniru, Lagos.

The PwC Chess4Change is a developmental initiative aimed at using the game of chess to improve critical reasoning amongst public secondary schools in Lagos State.

Starting with six (6) schools in its first year, the program has expanded with eighteen (18) schools slated to partake in this year’s edition of the program.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Oluyomi Oluwasanmi, Head, Regional and International Sports, Lagos State Sports Commission praised PwC for its endeavours in uplifting sports in the state stating that it aligns with the mission of the Lagos State Sports Commission of making Lagos Africa’s sports hub.

Mr Pedro, a Partner from PwC in his speech emphasised the objectives of the program stressing that the initiative is a way to develop the students of Lagos State and also expressed delight at the various successes recorded since inception which necessitated the year-on-year increase in the number of schools participating in the program.

The new schools for this year’s edition are:  Birrel Avenue Senior High School, Sabo, Ireti Senior Grammar School, Ikoyi, Jubilee Model Grammar School, Orile Ignamu, Wahab Folawiyo High School, Ikoyi, Lagos City College, Yaba and Eko Akete Grammar School.

Chess sets and clocks were presented to the schools.

Other schools in the program include, last season champion, Kings College, Aunty Ayo Girls Comprehensive High School, Ikoyi, Falomo High School, Ikoyi New Era Senior Secondary School, Government Senior College, Eric Moore, Kuramo College, Victoria Island among others.

Also in attendance at the press conference were Principals, Games Masters, Chess tutors, Students of participating schools as well as members of the press.

The 3rd edition will commence on Thursday 10th November, 2016 with tutoring sessions across all the participating schools.
