In preparation for the PwC Chess4Change Grand Slam event, PricewaterhouseCoopers organised a mentorship programme and a mini chess challenge for the participating schools.

The challenge was held on the 22nd, 23rd and 29th of April 2015 at Government Senior College, Akande Dahunsi Senior Secondary School and Holy Child College respectively.

The mentorship programme featured a short interactive session between representatives of PwC and the students. It was also used to motivate the students who participated in the PwC Chess4Change initiative.

The mini chess challenge on the other hand, acted as a mock competition before the main Grand Slam which is slated for May 2015.

Already, preparations have been on going in the participating schools for the events as school chess clubs are gearing up for the Grand Slam event.

For the mini tournament, Kuramo Senior Secondary School, V.I was paired with Government Senior College, Victoria Island, Akande Dahunsi Senior Secondary School, Ikoyi played Falomo Senior Secondary School, Ikoyi, while Holy Child, Ikoyi,went head to head against Kings College.

PwC is the proud sponsor of the Chess4Change which aims at improving strategic thinking and sharpen mental reasoning of secondary school students. This is surely an excellent innovation as they are helping teenagers to enhance their mental faculty. Moreover, these set of individuals are the future of the nation.
