The 2015 edition of the GTBank Super Cup, tagged ‘Ultimate Battle’, was indeed an ultimate battle between winners of the GTBank-Lagos State Principals Cup and the GTBank-Ogun State Principals Cup Champions in the Boys and Girls Category.

The 2015 GTBank Super Cup which is the second edition of the tournament was held at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu, Ogun State, on Wednesday, 2nd December 2015. The event had dignitaries in attendance, including – The Deputy Governor of Ogun State – Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga; The 1st Vice-President of the Nigeria Football Federation – Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi; The Ogun State Commissioner for Youths and Sports – Afolabi Afuape; Divisional Head, Retail Banking, GTBank – Mrs Yetunde Ige; Senior Manager, Communication and External Affairs, GTBank – Oyinade Adegite.

Opening the 2015 GTBank Super Cup was the Girls’ category match between two time GTBank-Lagos State Principals Cup Champions – Ikotun Girls Senior High School, Lagos and current champions of the GTBank-Ogun State Principals Cup – Muslim High School, Isolu, Abeokuta. The very enthusiastic female footballers took over the pitch after the ceremonial kick off was performed by the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Onanuga.

Muslim High School dominated the game from the blast of the whistle putting Ikotun Girls Senior High School on the back foot. Their first half dominance paid off as they scored the opening goal through Nurudeen Wasilat.

The second half was more competitive, with the Lagos team putting in more effort than they did in the first half of the game. But, who wants to be defeated at home? The Ogun State team refused to let that happen, they kept pressing, ending the second half with another goal through a penalty awarded after goalkeeper for Ikotun Girls Senior High School –Ojo Anuoluwapo – brought down Nurudeen Wasilat in the box in the dying moments of the match. The penalty was converted by the captain, Jumoke Adeyinka sending the Ogun State fans into wild jubilation.

Muslim High School held on to record a first GTBank Super Cup Victory. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match award went to Nurudeen Wasilat of Muslim High School, Isolu.

The Boys’ match between Pakoto Senior High School, Ayede, Ifo and Birrel Avenue High School, Sabo Yaba was a tougher one.

The ceremonial kick off was performed by Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi.

To the two teams, football is all about winning and losing is not an option; for the Ogun State team, they stood the same ground as the Ogun State girls – No one wants to be defeated at home. The first half of the match ended with the Ogun State team defeating their Lagos counterparts by a lone goal scored by Sola Damilola.

Just like the girls’ match, the second half was a lot tougher, but this time there was no goal from both teams even though Birrel Avenue had numerous chances to equalize. Ayinde Kehinde in goal for Pakoto High School proved to be the difference as he thwarted the various attempts from Birrel Avenue Senior High School.

Pakoto Senior High School held on for the victory with Ayinde Kehinde emerging the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the Boys match.

The thrilling event wasn’t all about football, as there were loads of entertaining acts, including a live performance by Nigerian Artiste, Lil Kesh and a band performance by The NYSC Band, Ogun State.

Amidst jubilation and victory songs by the champions, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, her delegates and other dignitaries rounded up the event with presentation of the ‘Super Cup Trophy’ to the winning teams.
