ETISALAT 5 – 0 ALCATEL
Tekena Orugbani (3)
Ajala Solomon (1),
Kingsley Daniel (1)
Match day 2 of the Nigeria Telecoms Games saw Etisalat and Alcatel locked in battle for 3 precious points. For Etisalat, it was a must win game considering their loss to MTN in the first game. A win would put them in good stead for a place in the finals.
Alcatel, making their debut in the competition needed to make a good impression. This certainly wasn’t the opening tie they were hoping for, coming up against 2 time finalist Etisalat.
It was a busy afternoon for Alcatel with their goalkeeper; Abayomi Adebosin called to duty many times in the game. Etisalat started the brighter of the 2 sides, laying siege on the Alcatel goal. For all the chances they created, they were only able to break the deadlock via a penalty, scored by Ajala Solomon.
The efforts of captain Oladiran Abimbola and Olumide Hassan came to naught as Etisalat led for the first time this year by their captain Andrew Enebeli, were bent on cancelling the 4 goal deficit against MTN.
While Alcatel’s goalkeeper Abayomi Adebosin was busy all afternoon, Chima Nnorom had to resort to jogging in his box to stay alert. Thanks largely to the efforts of Khalid Agboola, Aremu George, Kolawole Atoloye and Kingsley Daniel who snuffed out every attack by Alcatel.
While the Etisalat defence were hard at work keeping out attackers Alcatel’s Nwachukwu Uchenna, Ossai Ijeoma, Edet Enoch and Rafiu Saleem were busy trying to curtail the likes of Solomon Ajala, Osere Osunbor and Tekena Orugbani.
The first half finished 2 goals to nothing with Tekena Orugbani scoring the 2nd via a delectable free kick 20 yards out. The 2nd half saw him hitting his hat trick while Kingsley Daniels scored the 4th before Tekena added gloss to the score line with his 3th of the day and his team’s 5th.
This victory takes Etisalat 2nd on the table with 3 points same MTN, but with an inferior goal difference and having played one match more.
