PZ CUSSONS 0 – 2 NESTLE
Nestle on Saturday 21st June, 2014, moved one step towards the final of the 2014 FMCG games football event with a professional win over PZ Cussons.
Both sides came into this game having met at the REMITA Corporate Champions Cup, where Nestle won 2 – 1. PZ Cussons had a clear mission to win and stay in with a slim chance of qualifying for the final.
Nestle, however were in search of the same thing which meant it was going to be a tough contest.
The game started with Nestle taking the game to PZ Cussons and it wasn’t long before Segun Abubakar in goal for PZ was beaten for the first goal. This goal stung PZ into action, but all efforts to get an equalizer was rebuffed by a defence marshalled well by Eragbon Justin.
The first half ended with Nestle holding onto their one goal lead.
The second half started at an equally breath-taking pace as PZ knew defeat would confine them to the 3rd place play off for the second time in 2 years. They practically threw the kitchen sink at Nestle, but were unable to break down the defence.
Against the run of play Ismail Ibrahim threatened to double Nestle’s advantage, but spurned a very good opportunity. He was however gifted another opportunity a minute later and this time he punished PZ Cussons for it.
All efforts by PZ to reduce the deficit yielded no result as it finished two nil in Nestle’s favour.
MVP: OLUCHUKWU MUKOLU (NESTLE)
