The Grand Slam Tournament for the 3rd Edition of the PwC Chess4Change initiative, which was held at Indoor Sports Hall at Teslim Balogun Stadium, came to a close on Friday 16th, June.
Kings College, Victoria Island, Lagos for the third time in a row emerge champions, both in the school and individual category.
The 3-day event which kicked off from Wednesday, 14th – Friday, 16th June, ended on a high note with a closing/awards ceremony, with several dignitaries in attendance – the COO MediaVision Limited, Mr Jimmy Sogbesan; Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission/SA Sports, Mr Deji Tinubu; and Mr Kenneth Erikume, Director, Tax and Regulatory Services, PwC.
Renowned Arbiters where on ground to coordinate the tournament, which a total of 22 schools participated in the school category, battling for supremacy; while individuals from each school also battled it out in the thrilling chess tournament, all contesting for the position of a PwCChess4Change Grand Master.
When the tournament came to a close, Kings College, Lagos had proudly defended their title, winning it for the 3rd time in a row, Birrel Avenue Senior High School, Sabo and Onitolo Community Senior High School, Surelere emerging second and third respectively; with Onitolo Community Senior High making their debut at the PwC chess tournament.
In the individual category, Sheriff Muhammad of Kings College, Lagos emerged number one of the top 10 best players at the Grand Slam tournament. Pipping Adara Victor of Birrel Avenue Senior High and Pelomoh Jessica of Aunty Ayo Girls Comprehensive, who came second and third respectively.
Dignitaries where also not left out, as they took the time to enjoy the game of Chess.
