Kings College, Victoria Island, Lagos and its student, Ajuh John have emerged winners in schools and individual categories of the 2nd edition of PwC Chess4Change Grand Slam.
The 3-day event which held at the Teslim Balogun Indoor Sports Hall from Tuesday, 19th – Thursday, 21st April, ended on a high note with a closing/awards ceremony.
Dignitaries in attendance included – the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Govt on Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh; Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission/SA Sports, Deji Tinubu; DG, Lagos State Sports Commission, Ayo Agbesanwa and Kenneth Erikume, Director, Tax and Regulatory Services, PwC.
The thrilling Chess tournament was all about survival of the best, as it had renowned chess Arbiters coordinating the tournament and a total of 19 schools battling for mental supremacy.
At the end of tournament, the schools category award saw Kings College, Lagos emerged champions for the 2nd time, with Falomo High School and Govenment Senior College, Eric-Moore, coming second and third respectively.
For the individual category, Ajuh John of Kings College finished tops as the best individual player and was followed by Atueyi Nnaemeka of Govenment Senior College, Eric-Moore and Obagun Michael of Akande Dahunsi Senior High School in second and third positions respectively.
The top 3 female players of the tournament where also awarded, with the first emerging from Aunty Ayo Girls High School, while the 2nd and third emerged from Itolo Girls High School.
