After months of exciting football, the GTBank – Ogun State Principals Cup 2017 is set for thrilling final encounters at M.K.O. Abiola Stadium Abeokuta on Thursday, 21st September, 2017.
In this piece, we take a look at the happenings in the competition to date.
The GTBank – Ogun State Principals Cup (Season 5) kicked off with a press conference on Thursday, 2nd March 2017 held at The Cinema Hall, June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun state with all stakeholders present including the Commissioner for Youth & Sports, Mr Moruf Afuwape.
The competition featured 425 schools across the four divisions of Ogun State – Remo, Yewa, Ijebu and Egba with 423 male matches and 391 female matches played in the preliminary stage. The preliminaries produced two qualifiers each from the four divisions in the male and female categories.
In the male category, 2016 finalists, Methodist Comprehensive College, Sagamu and 2nd runner-up, Pakoto High School, Ifo led the pack of quarter finalists which comprised; Egba Owode Grammar School, Owode, Anglican Grammar School, Ota, Ipara Community High School, Remo, Ijebu Ode Grammar School, Ijebu Ife Community Grammar school and Itolu Community High School.
In the female category, defending champion Muslim High School, Isolu, made a familiar appearance with Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ijebu Ode, Saint Anthony Grammar School, Esure, Iganmode Grammar School, Ota, Isara Secondary School, Makun High School, Sagamu, Nawar-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Abeokuta and Iko Gateway Grammar School, Idiroko making up the rest of the quarter finalists.
The female quarter finals match took place at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta on 13th June 2017.
On 14th June 2017, the quarter finals continued with the male matches at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
The tournament continued on 20th June 2017 with the Semi Final matches at M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
