The GTBank Masters Cup Semi-Finals kicked off on an interesting note as teams churn out spectacular goals and showed their dexterity on the field of play.

Some of the dignitaries present were GTBank Deputy Manager of Corporate communications – Mr Lashe Oshoba, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications – Mrs. Oyinade Adegite;  Principal of Kings College and Chairman of LAFGEHECA -Otunba Oladele Olapeju; Former AIG of Police & Vice President of St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association – Mr Tunji Alapini, President of St. Finbarr’s College Old Boys Association – Mr Anthony Bashorun, CEO MediaVision Limited – Mr Obafela Bank-Olemoh amongst others.

QUEENS COLLEGE 4-0 ANSAR UD DEEN COLLEGE

In the first female semi–final match, Queens College, Yaba defeated Ansar Ud Deen College Isolo 4-0 to progress to the finals. Dolapo Airori scored a hat trick and her family was there to cheer her.

But it was a very dramatic male semi-final fixture between Western College, Yaba and St Gregory’s College, Obalende. St. Gregory’s College came from a goal down to win the 2-1. it ended goalless at half time but Ekene Jebefume gave Western College the lead in the 39 minutes.

However, the Gregorians do not give up easily and they got their equalizer in the last 10 minutes of the game. It all looked like it was going to penalty shoot out but a last minutes attempt from St. Gregory’s College saw the goal keeper spill the ball in the 18 yard box and Okafor Frank pounced on it to slot it home for his team.

ANSAR UD DEEN GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL 3-1 FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COLLEGE

Ansar Ud Deen Girls High School, Itire defeated debutants Federal Governemnt College, Ijanikin to progress to the finals . Fatima Oyebanji of Ansar Ud Deen Girls opened the score line in the 3rd minute after she out the FGC defence but FGC replied exactly 3 minutes later as Captain Toyosi Towoju’s stunning free kick ended up in the left hand corner of net to make it all square.

However this did not last long as Fatima gave her school the lead. She later went on to score a hat trick  minutes after she failed to convert from the spot kick and the match ended 3-1 in favor of Ansar Ud Deen Girls High School, Itire.

JIBRIL MARTINS MEM. GRAMMAR SCHOOL 1(2) – 1(4) ST. FINBARR’S COLLEGE

St. Finbarr’s College saw off a very spirited Jibri Martin Memorial Grammar School side through penalty shootout. The Akoka boys were leading from the 3rd  minutes after Opara Nnadozie converted a penalty kick. But this did not wear Jibril Martins down as they kept pushing for the equalizer. Their chance came minutes before regulation time and that took the game to penalty shoot out. However, St. Finbarr’s were the most composed side and they scored all 4 of their penalty takes while Jibril Martins scored only 2 and that gave St. Finbarr’s College their first every GTBank Masters Cup Finals ticket.
