One of the most exciting secondary school football tournaments in Africa, the GTBank Masters Cup, is set to return for its 9th season, following its Press Conference & Draws, which was held on Thursday, 24th October 2019 at the GTBank head office in Victoria Island, Lagos. The tournament will feature 30 Male teams and 20 Female teams s who will compete for trophies in the male and female categories.

The GTBank Masters Cup Draws commenced with welcome remarks by Jimmy Sogbesan. He reiterated the role of GTBank in promoting Youth Development in Lagos and laid special emphasis on the case of Steven Odey who had just scored a Champions League goal on his debut, the night before. He stressed that Odey’s rapid rise is proof of the benefits of GTBank Football Tournaments which gives the students the extra motivation they need to achieve their dreams.
The next remarks were delivered by Mr. Biyibi Victor. His speech centered around aligning the tournament schedule with the academic calendar and emphasizing the zero tolerance for the use of mercenaries during the tournament.
Mr Bolowotan Gafaar Oluwatoyin – Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission encouraged the players and highlighted how the vision of Lagos State for sports development aligns with GTBank Football Tournaments.
Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi wished all the participants the best of luck in the tournament.
For the sponsors’ remark, Oyinade Adegite appreciated the participants for their commitment towards the tournament. She went further to reiterate that students are and will remain the main beneficiaries of the GTBank Football Tournaments.
The Draws
The draws session was anchored by Nike Abiola from MediaVision Limited. She recognized the participating schools and all the principals in attendance who also actively participated in the draws.

The event was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Olabanji Obasanjo an S.S.3 student of Kings College, Lagos – Season 8 Champions. The young Champ thanked GTBank for providing a platform to showcase their football skills and he wished all the participants the best of luck in the tournament.
