GTBank Masters Cup

One of the most exciting secondary school football tournaments in Africa, the GTBank Masters Cup, returned for its 8th season, following its opening draws, which was held on Thursday, January 17, 2019, in Victoria Island, Lagos. The tournament will feature over 30 schools and more than 40 teams who will compete for trophies in the male and female categories.

The GTBank Masters Cup Draws commenced with a welcome remark by the Lagos First Generation Heritage Colleges (LAFGHECA) Chairperson, Mrs R.O. Yusuf. In her remarks, she stated that the tournament will be promising and fulfilling for all participants.

In closing, she promised that the tournament will be hitch-free from the Group Stage to the Finals.

For the sponsors’ remark, Mrs Abisoye Balogun from the GTBank Communication and External Affairs Group appreciated the participants for their commitment towards the tournament.

She went further to reinstate that “GTBank supports in-classroom and out of classroom educational programmes, infrastructural development projects, and teachers training in Nigeria”.

Moving further, she pointed out two major reasons why they support the GTBank Masters Cup Football Tournament. “GTBank supports the GTBank Masters Cup because it provides a platform that helps nurture amazing football talents to shine and the benefit of the programme extends to the students outside public schools”.

To close her remark, she mentioned that “GTBank knows the important role that sports and education play in the development of character and a healthy lifestyle at this stage of young students’ lives”.

Draws

The draws session was anchored by Mrs Nike Abiola from MediaVision Limited. She recognised the participating schools and specially welcomed the new schools. The eight (8) new schools are:

  1. Halifield Schools, Maryland
  2. Birch Freeman College, Surulere
  3. Ifako International School, Ifako
  4. Apostolic Church Grammar School, Ketu
  5. Livingspring Hi-Grade College, Ilasamaja
  6. Anwar-Ul Islam Girls High School, Ojokoro
  7. Lead-Forte Gate College, Lekki
  8. Bakre Disu Oshodi Memorial High School

Moving further into the draws, she explained that 29 male teams and 20 female teams will be participating in the 8th Season of the GTBank Masters Cup.
