QUARTER – FINALS ROUND UP

The quarter – finals of the GTBank – Lagos State Principals Cup quarterfinals took place at the Agege Stadium on 23rd & 24th February 2015.

DAY 1 (23/02/2015)

STADIUM GTBA

Girls

1.     CMS SENIOR GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL 2-0 GIRLS SENIIOR HIGH SCHOOL

The First Quarterfinal game was between CMS Senior Girls Secondary School, Bariga and Girls Senior High School, Agege which CMS Girls won 2 – 0.  CMS senior girls secondary school completely dominated the match and the goals could have been more but for their wastefulness in front of goal. Their enterprising forward Folorunsho Aminat scored a brace to bring her goal tally to 4 in the competition.

2.     ALAKOTO SENIOR GIRLS 0 – 1 IKOTUN SENIOR GIRLS

In the second match of the day also in the girls’ category, Ikotun Senior High School, Ikotun got a hard fought 1 – 0 victory over spirited Alakoto Senior Secondary School to progress to the semifinal. While the spectators and fans alike were settling down for a penalty shoot-out Salisu Anu scored a back breaker in the closing minutes of the match to send his team to the semi-final of this year’s competition.

Boys

  1. 1.     IKORODU SENIOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL 3 – 0 IJU GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Watching the Ikorodu lads during Mondays match brought memories of the exploits of the losing finalist of 2012 –Oriwu senior high school also from Ikorodu. The Ikorodu senior grammar school lads brought the fantastic form they displayed during the State Preliminary to the quarterfinals by whitewashing Iju Grammar School 3 – 0 in a one sided encounter. Seun Ayegbusi scored the opener goal while Johnson Blessing scored a brace to increase his tally to 5 goals.

2.     DR. LUCAS MEM. COLLEGE 2 – 2 KEKE HIGH SCHOOL (PEN- DR. LUCAS 1-4 KEKE)

This was a very sensational match, Dr. Lucas took the lead in the first minutes through a Diyoke Benjamin strike. Keke High School equalized through a penalty and Dr. Lucas doubled the lead again. The match ended all square at full time (after an injury time equalizer by Keke senior secondary school) and the game went straight to penalty shootout. Keke were victorious after Isiagu Benjamin and Ekeowa Moses missed their penalty spot kicks.

DAY 2 (24/02/2015)

 GIRLS

  1. 1.     GOVERNMENT SENIOR COLLEGE 6 – 0 ILADO COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOL

That government senior college went goal gaga was an understatement. The defending champions of the girl’s events send a warning signal to all and sundry that they aren’t ready to relinquish the title the won last season just yet. The champions’ punctured Ilado’s run with a 6 – 0 whitewash. The goals were shared between Olaronke Ola, Oyebowale Adedoyin and Adebiyi Saidat who scored a hat trick. Olaronke Ola scored a brace in the game bringing her goal tally to 9.

2.     QUEENS COLLEGE 0-4 ORIWU MODEL COLLEGE

Oriwu Model College are through to the semifinals after they defeated queens College 4- 0. If this was a beauty contest the queen college will have walked over the Oriwu model girls but the reverse was the case in the quarter final match-up. Ikeduba’s long range effort caught the defense of the queen college girls napping for the curtain raiser while Olowu Gloria doubled Oriwu’s lead just 2 minutes after the curtain raiser. The golden girl of Oriwu model college Ubani Victoria sealed Queen’s colleges’ fate with a well taken brace.

BOYS

  1. 1.     ISOLO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL  0 – 2 BIRREL AVENUE SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL

A 10 man Isolo put up a good fight but they were overwhelmed by Birrel Avenue Senior Secondary School .It seems most of the Isolo senior high school would prefer to be in goal for their team. The Isolo boys conceded their first goal from a well taken penalty scored by Moshood Akano after the ball was handled in the penalty box. They were reduced to 10 men after Samuel Shola was given the marching orders for deliberately handling the ball..Moshood Akano completely his brace after he carefully slotted home from a quick counter attack.

  1. 2.     DAIRY FARM 1 – 2 IFAKO COMPREHENSIVE

This was the highlight to the quarterfinals. As Defending Champions, Dairy Farm were knocked out of this year’s Principals Cup by Ifako Comprehensive who many referred to as the under-dog. Joshua Akpudje. The lanky captain of Ifako (who supports Manchester united but ironically idolizes John Terry )scored the first goal from the penalty spot after a hand ball in the 18 yard box in the 25th minutes. Dairy Farm equalized through Akanni Adekunle from a well-placed shot off a quick counter attack 2 minutes into the second stanza. Joshua scored the Ifako’s second goal from a free kick which was fumbled by the goal keeper to seal Dairy Farm’s fate.
