Principal Cup Preliminary Round-Up

After 3 days of exciting and highly competitive football, the state preliminary of the GTBank- Lagos State Principals Cup, 2014/2015 has ended.

For the girls’ category, defending champions Government Senior College, Agege have been very impressive. They scored a total of 14 goals in two matched without conceding a goal in the process. Their very efficient striker, Olaronke Ola leads the scorers chart with 6 goals.

C.M.S Girls Senior secondary School, Bariga is also a very remarkable team. The school which got to last year’s semifinals are determined to perform better this year as they have a compact team with a sharp attack and strong defence. They qualified on maximum points without conceding a goal while scoring 9.

Queens College,Yaba, Oriwu Model College, Ikorodu, Alakoto Senior High School, Apapa, Girls Senior High School, Agege, Ikotun Senior High School, Ikotun and Ilado Community High School, Victoria Island all qualified from their groups and will be playing at the quarterfinals to have a chance of winning the 1st prize of 1 Million Naira.

Meanwhile, Ikorodu Senior Grammar School, Ikorodu are aiming for the ultimate prize of the competition after displaying enormous skills and dedication in their state preliminary matches. They won all their matches and scored 10 goals without conceding any. This was also the case for Defending Champions, Dairy Farm Senior High School, Agege and Birrel Avenue Senior High School, Sabo who all qualified on maximum points.

Dr. Lucas Memorial Secondary School, Kirikiri, Keke High School, Agege, Isolo Senior High School, Isolo, Ifako Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Gbagada and Iju Grammar School, Iju all qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition.

Of the total of 88 goals scored so far, Bankole Quadri of Iju Grammar School and John Blessing of Ikorodu Senior Grammar School leads the scorers chart for boys with 4 and 3 goals respectively.

The next round of the competition  promises to be very thrilling was more skills and discipline will be on display as well as more fantastic goals that will be scored from promising young talents who are ‘Breaking All Barriers’ by ‘Playing By the Rules’ .
