In its effort to improve grassroots football and encourage youth engagement, Guaranty Trust Bank, sponsors of the GTBank – Lagos State Principals Cup on Wednesday, 27th of September, 2017 commissioned a football pitch in the Obele Community Schools’ Complex, Surulere.
The occasion was graced by several dignitaries from the Lagos State Ministry of Education and GTBank alongside the hosts – Principals of Obele Community High School and Ideal Girls High School.
In her opening remarks, Mrs Lola Are – Adegbite, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District IV expressed her gratitude to GTBank for providing a pitch for the students in the district to train and improve their skills while also stating that the project is a dream come true for all the beneficiaries.
Mr Jide Sipe, representative of GTBank, explained that the bank is focused on raising the standard of grassroots football and encouraging extracurricular activities in schools within the area.
Mrs Sewanu Amosu who represented the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr (Mrs) Idiat Adebule thanked GTBank for being a dependable partner of the Lagos State Government in the development of the youth through sports and education.
The Unveiling of the Monument
The pitch monument was unveiled by Mrs Sewanu Amosun (Representative of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State) alongside, Mr Jide Sipe, Mrs Tolulope Onipede (GTBank), Mrs Bola Babs Akinyeye, Mrs Lola Are- Adegbite (Lagos State Ministry of Education) and Mr Jimmy Sogbesan (MediaVision Limited – Project Consultants)
Equipment Handover
After the monument was unveiled, football equipment – corner flags, goalpost net and footballs – were handed to the principals of Obele Community Junior High School, Obele Community Senior High School, Ideal Girls Junior High School and Ideal Girls Senior High School by Mrs Babs Akinyeye.
Novelty Match
A novelty match was played between Obele Community Senior High School and Gbaja Boys High School. Gbaja Boys High School won the match by 1 – 0.
Miss Precious Michael, a student of Obele Community Senior High School and Mrs Esther Babatunde, Principal of Obele Community Senior High School gave the vote of thanks appreciating GTBank for its commitment to developing sports facilities in Lagos State Schools and also giving assurances that the facility will be put to good use.
