Remita Corporate Champions Cup

The finale of the Remita Corporate Champions Cup 2018 was held on Sunday 26th of August. By 12noon, an excited and zealous crowd began to arrive at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex to witness the best of the best in Corporate Nigeria football. The atmosphere around the stadium was both cheerful and welcoming as supporters of the various participating teams sang, danced and cheered on their teams in the true spirit of the Remita Corporate Champions Cup.

Two novelty matches kicked off the final match day on a lighter note, with the first match between the Remita Eagles (SystemSpecs) and the MVL Mavericks (MediaVision Ltd). The match ended in a 2-0 victory for the Remita Eagles. Goals from Mojeed Ishola & Daniel Agbogo saw the event’s sponsors celebrate a comfortable victory over their opponents.

The second Novelty match saw Corporate Nigeria Hall of Famers take on Fintech Group. The HOF comprised of NBG legends and top executives of the banking sector while their opponent had top executives in the IT sector. The game produced a lot of wonderful football with the Corporate Nigeria Hall of Famers earning a 1-0 win via a goal from Bamidele Odunuga of EcoBank.

The battle for the Bronze medal i.e. the third place match took center stage next. This fixture featured Leadway Assurance and First Bank. The game kicked off with a goal from Ephraim Nwachukwu who gave his team an early lead and in the second half, Eto Mathias scored another to round off a 2-0 victory for Leadway Assurance.

Events for the last match day of fourth season of the Remita Corporate Champions Cup was capped off with the highly anticipated final match. The match featured FrieslandCampina and FCMB, two sides exciting and tactical teams. The game produced a grand display of good, end-to-end football which made it a close call for fans. FrieslandCampina scored the only goal of the match in the second half which was enough for them to be crowned as Champion of Champions ending the match 1-0 in their favour.

One of the major highlights of the finals was the Ambassador Challenge which was a penalty shootout involving top executives including the likes of Mr John Obaro (M.D. /CEO Systemspecs), Mr Obafela Bank-Olemoh (SA Education, Lagos State), Mr Dick Van-Bareen (Director of Finance – FrieslandCampina), Mr Adeyinka Atilade (Head of Sport, FCMB), Honorable Onawo (Chairman, Committee on ICT, House of Reps) against the Ambassador. Legendary Nigerian goal keeper – Peter Rufai Dodo Mayanna as he is fondly called showed why he is deemed a legend saving two spots kicks to the excitement of the crowd.

Outstanding players were also awarded for their performances; a total of five individual awards were handed out

Another major highlight of the day was the star performance delivered by Mayorkun. The artist left fans elated with performance of his hit songs.

Fans/Spectators were not left out as they also participated in the fastest finger challenge where people won airtime, Take-A-Shot challenge and a raffle draw for fans to win a variety of great prizes

The DJ was on ground, playing the songs that kept the crowd dancing and entertained and there was also a children’s corner equipped with a bouncy castle.
