Chess Grandmaster, Nigel David Short paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria during which he had interactive session with PwC Nigeria and the participating students of PwC Chess4Change.
The visit lasted for two days. Short met with Senior Marketing Manager/Head, Marketing and Communications, Ms. Delia Asuzu; President Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF) Mr. Adeyemi Lekan and Chief Operating Officer MediaVision Limited, Mr. Jimmy Sogbesan at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday, June 5 2018.
Wednesday started off with an interactive session between Grandmaster Nigel David Short and top officials of PwC Nigeria, alongside the participating students of PwC Chess4Change at PwC Lagos office.
The programme started off with opening remarks by Mr. Pedro Omontuenhem – Senior Partner, PwC Nigeria who welcomed everyone to the session, after which Dr. Andrew Nevin – Partner & Chief Economist, PwC Nigeria talked about the PwC Chess4Change initiative, highlighting the reason why PwC Nigeria has taken a huge step in educating students from Lagos secondary schools about Chess,
Thereafter, participating students from the just concluded PwC Chess4Change took turns to share their success stories about the laudable initiative.
Olaniran Olamide representing Winners of the school category – Lagos City College, Yaba, said Chess has improved his critical thinking skills.
Ocho Ikechukwu, Winner of the individual category – Birrel Avenue Senior High School, revealed that Chess has made him popular among his peers at school.
FUTURE COLLABORATIONS WITH NIGEL FOR SUBSEQUENT EDITIONS
Mr Eyita Otudor , Manager – Forensics Services and Mr. Ikenna Nduaguibe, Manager – Audit & Assurance, PwC Nigeria then took time to emphasize that the firm is looking to strike a long-term relationship with Grandmaster Nigel David Short in a bid to achieve set-goals for the PwC Chess4Change initiative.
Mr. Jimmy Sogbesan, Chief Operating Officer, MediaVision Limited also talked on how we will leverage the Nigel David Short’s brand to deepen the impact of PwC ChessChange
Afterwards, Grandmaster Nigel David Short proceeded to King’s College for a session with students. Below are some highlights of the session.
