The final of the GTBank Heritage Cup 2014 is all set as two of Lagos most prestigious schools prepare to square off. St Gregory’s college will lock horns with Eko Boys High School, while the girls’ category will see Queens College looking to conquer AUD Girls, Itire.
Eko Boys High School got to the final after overcoming Anwar-UL Islam Model College, while their rivals in the final St Gregs got there courtesy a 4 – 3 penalty shootout victory over Kings College.
The two finalists met earlier in the competition in the group stage, with St Greg’s emerging 3 – 1 victors. Eko Boys will however be looking to exact some form of revenge as they know that victory would crown them champions.
One thing is for sure, there will be a new champion in the boys’ category.
A 3 – 0 victory over AUD College, Isolo ensured a place in the final for Queens College, Yaba. They will however be coming up against a formidable and determined AUD Girls, Itire who incidentally cruised to the final via a 3 – 0 victory over MGHS. Both teams met in the group stage with the result a 1 – 1 draw.
The Heritage Cup Competition is a football tournament sponsored by Guaranty Trust Bank Plc to integrate into its developmental football programme private and non-government owned first generation schools that had actively participated in school football tournaments. The first two seasons which has been a huge success saw Anwar-Ul Islam emerging champions in 2012 and 2013.
The 2014 final comes up on Thursday, 5th June at the Campos Square football pitch.
