Nigeria Bankers Games

 

The Nigeria Bankers Games took centre stage last weekend – Saturday 25thOctober, 2018 as we entered the week two of the 2018 season. The Yabatech Sports Complex hosted two exciting group stage football matches.
The match day was graced by a few dignitaries including Desmond Anumkua – Divisional Head, Internal Control Compliance, Fidelity Bank, Uyi Uhunwango – Legal Services/ Team Manager Communications, Stanbic IBTC, Austin Ihenyen – Team Manager, UBA and Hall of Famer – Theo Amadi.

The first game of the day saw 5-time Nigerian Bankers’ Games champions, UBA take on returnees, Keystone Bank. The serial champions were looking to make a statement after the narrow defeat they suffered against FCMB on the opening day. UBA dominated the early minutes of the game and were rewarded in the 10th minute with a goal from Alex Andrew. UBA’s second goal came shortly after through Onyeka Cyprian and before half time UBA had doubled their advantage with another two goals from Umar Ahmad and Kabir Dauda who scored a wonderful volley to close out the first half.

UBA picked up from where they left the first half as Umar Ahmad scored two goals to complete his hat-trick, Kabir Dauda also got a brace, while substitute Ebuka Okereke scored the last goal of the game.

 

The second game of the day saw reigning champions, Fidelity Bank take on Sterling Bank. Fidelity bank were looking to bounce back from their disappointing draw with Stanbic IBTC in the opening game. The game got off to a quick start, finding the back of the net through Timilehin Samuel in the opening minutes of the game. The second goal came shortly after through a sublime free-kick from Tobi Anyandoku and before the break Fidelity Bank’s Kelechi Nwosu scored a third.

In the second half, Sterling Bank rang some changes in order to get themselves back in the game but were not able to convert any of their chances. Fidelity Bank got a fourth goal off the boot of Victor Jideonwo.

The spectators were not left out of the fun as different activities were lined up for their fun and entertainment, which gave them chances to win prizes. Between the basketball games, fastest fingers and raffle draw, spectators walked away with a wide range of prizes.
