UBA Pip FCMB, First Bank Hold Fidelity In Eye-catching NBG Opener

Match one – Fidelity Bank vs. First Bank

The Opening match of the 2017 NBG Football event was between the defending champions, Fidelity Bank and last year’s runner-up First Bank.

The game was a fitting opener to the football event as it was reminiscent of the penultimate match of the 2016 edition. The games kept the spectators on their feet as both teams gave an excellent account of themselves. Throughout the duration of the games, both teams were evenly matched as they created opportunities to take the lead but were rebuffed by resolute defending of the opposition team. The match ended in a goalless draw as both teams came off with a point apiece.

The MVP of the match was awarded to Olaolu Faradoye (Goalkeeper) of First Bank

 

Match two – UBA vs. FCMB

The second match of the opening day featured 5 – time champions of the NBG football event UBA who faced on 2008 football winners FCMB. The match witnessed a display of good football from both teams to the delight of the spectators. FCMB dominated possession in the first half and should have gone a goal up when Nsikan Ekanem took a snap shot which beat the goalkeeper only to curl narrowly wide. The second half of the game took a different twist when Mohammed Mijinyawa of UBA in the 53^rd minute produced a goal out of nowhere breaking the resolve of the FCMB defense. With match gradually winding down, FCMB were stunned further as goals from Agada Emmanuel and Onyekachi Cyprian in the 55^th and 59^th minute further extended UBA’s lead. For the spectators and fans alike the score line didn’t give a full account of the match as UBA produced all three goals towards the tail end of the game ending FCMB’s hope of a comeback.

The MVP of the match was awarded to Elijah Ajafa (Goalkeeper) of FCMB.

The fans were not left out as they won prizes and other freebies while competing in various challenges like the Take –A- Shot, Basket Ball challenge as well as Fastest Fingers. The DJ also played lovely tunes to excite and thrill the crowd.
