GTBank Masters Cup

The second round of GTBank Masters Cup season 7 commenced on the 9th of March 2018 at ANSAR-UD-DEEN COLLEGE, ISOLO.


MATCH-DAY ONE

Three matches in the male category were played on the first match day with plenty of goals scored by the six teams involved in the action.

CHRISLAND SCHOOLS  (3 – 0) ANSAR-UD-DEEN GRAMMAR SCHOOL

The one sided affair between ANSAR-UD-DEEN GRAMMAR SCHOOL, RANDLE and CHRISLAND  saw the former fall in the hands of the latter at Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Isolo. Fuhad Banire’s brace in the early stages of the game and a clinical finish from Olaolu Joseph was more than enough for CHRISLAND to progress into the quarter finals of the competition.

FINBARR’S COLLEGE (3 -1) JIBRIL MARTIN MEMORIAL GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Augustine Ikechukwu and Akpan Moses found the back of the early stages of the first half at Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Isolo leaving JIBRIL MARTIN on the back foot as early as the 9th minute. Mustapha Alagbala pulled one back on the 38th minute which reduced ST. FINBARR’S lead to a lone goal. Eight minutes from reaching the hour mark Augustine Ikechukwu’s cleaver finish dashed JIBRIL MARTIN’s hope of staging a comeback against ST. FINBARR’S.

ANWAR-UL-ISLAM MODEL COLLEGE ( 6 – 1) AVI – CENNA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

In the final match of the day, AVI – CENNA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, IKEJA were on the receiving end of a 6 – 1 defeat courtesy ANWAR-UL-ISLAM boys. Zabar Musthapha started the party, opening scoring early on in the game. Lone goals from Sanmi Jamiu, Umar Okasha, Abeje Azeez, and Earnest Promise produced a sensational performance. Ogochukwu Ikatule was only able to compound his team’s problems by putting the ball in his own net.

However AVI – CENNA still showed a bit of quality was present in their attack as Nannas NZechukwu scored a consolation goal as they crashed out of the competition.


MATCH-DAY TWO

The second match day of the GT Bank maters Cup took place at KINGS COLLEGE on the 10th of March 2018. Two action-packed games were played on a sunny Saturday afternoon which saw the winners of both games advance to the quarter finals of the competition.

GREENSPRINGS SCHOOL (0 – 0) BAPTIST ACADEMY ((3 -5) ON PENALTIES)

A goalless draw in regulation time due to many wasted opportunities by both sides took the game into penalties which was eventually won by the boys from Obanikoro. BAPTIST ACADEMY did not need a classic performance to get into the quarter finals of the Masters Cup but were still able to get a favorable result from a very though encounter at Kings College.

 ATLANTIC HALL (4 – 1) INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, LAGOS

A brilliant display from ATLANTIC HALL on a very sunny afternoon, saw them rip INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL apart at Kings College. Four-time MVP Fadeyibi Ibukun inspired ATLANTIC HALL to a comfortable win which took them into the quarter finals of the competition. Fadeyibi Ibukun, Isamaka Jedidah, Ogunbanjo Ireoluwa and Odeka Olakunle punished INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL for failing to carry out their defensive duties properly by scoring a goal each. INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL attempted to put up a fight by getting a consolation goal through Soyebi Adewale.


 MATCH-DAY THREE

St. Finbarr’s College hosted the super exciting and electrifying fixtures involving KINGS COLLEGE, FEDERAL SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE, YABA, CMS GRAMMAR SCHOOL and IGBOBI COLLEGE. Just as we expected all the action unfolded in style and the games lived up to their expectations.

IGBOBI COLEGE 2 – 1 FEDERAL SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE

Early kick-off at St. Finbarr’s College, IGBOBI COLEGE ensured they booked their place in the quarter finals, coming from a goal down to beat FEDERAL SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE. Victor Thourn opened the scoring in the 25th minute for FEDERAL SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE, unfortunately they could not keep it tight at the back. Three minutes from half time Gawa Barrich equalized for IGBOBI COLLEGE and leveled the score line at halftime. In the second half, FEDERAL SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE defence line was in shambles, leading to another goal by Uka Ikechukwu.

KINGS COLLEGE 5 – 0 CMS GRAMMAR SCHOOL

KINGS COLLEGE started like a house on fire at St. Finbarr’s College scoring four goals in the first 25 minutes of the game. CMS GRAMMAR SCHOOL’S defense was shattered into pieces by some lethal attacking display from KINGS COLLEGE which swiftly took them out of sight. Chwang Celestine’s sensational hat trick was a major highlight in the game as well as his team mates Adeyemo Peter and Okafor Cletus also on the score sheet.
