The semi-finals of the Remita Corporate Champions Cup 2019 presented us with exhilarating and thrilling matches at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, Yaba on Sunday, August 25th 2019.

The event was graced by dignitaries and top executives which includes;

  • MD, SystemSpecs Nigeria – Mr John Obaro,
  • ED, SystemSpecs – Mr Deremi Atanda,
  • Senior Consultant, SystemSpecs – Mrs Comfort Adebiyi,
  • COO of MediaVision Ltd – Mr Jimmy Sogbesan,
  • Director School Sports, Ministry of Education – Mrs Balogun Oluremi,
  • Managing Director of Siklas Nigeria Ltd – Mr Sowunmi Adeniyi,
  • Human Resources, FCMB – Mr Mohammed Hanidu
  • Head, Information Technology Service Delivery Manager and Chairman of Sports, FCMB – Mr Adeyinka Atilade
  • Former Nigerian Goalkeeper and Tournament Ambassador – Peter Rufai.

 

CORPORATE NOVELTY: CREDIT DIRECT VS CAPRICORN DIGITAL

The day started on a lighter note, with a novelty match between last year’s wildcard – Credit Direct and Capricon Digital. The match ended at 1- 0 in favour of Credit Direct.

CAMPUS CHALLENGE: LASPOTECH FC VS UNILAG FC

The Campus Challenge also continued this week with LASPOTECH FC and UNILAG FC vying for an opportunity to play LASU FC on the final day. The match was played at a fast tempo with both teams giving as much as they got. However, it was not until the dying minutes of the second half that the Unilag FC Captain had the best chance of the game, he lobbed the onrushing LASPOTECH FC Goalkeeper to score the winning goal.

The finals of the Campus Challenge will be between LASU FC and UNILAG FC.

UNILEVER VS FCMB 

The first semi-final match of the day saw 2018 FCMG Games Football runners up, Unilever, take on the Nigeria Bankers Games 2nd runners-up – FCMB. The match started off in emphatic fashion with Unilever applying pressure early on and controlling the game tempo. The match remained goalless at the break thanks to the heroics of Elijah Ashafa and his defence.

The second half presented a more open match as both teams tried to draw first blood. Shortly after the restart Ebuka Daniel latched on to a through ball and was able to put a good finish past the FCMB goalkeeper. FCMB committed more bodies forward in search of an equalizer but the compact Unilever defence left little to no space for FCMB to exploit. The match ended 1-0 and Unilever booked the first final spot.

NESTLE VS FRIESLANDCAMPINA

The last match of the day saw two Nigeria FMCG Games giants Nestle and FrieslandCampina battle for the last spot in the 2019 finals. The match was an open affair as both teams came out trying to attack and control the game. Fans were kept on the edge of the seats as both teams came close to breaking the deadlock on multiple occasions but failed to convert their chances. The match ended goallessly and proceeded to penalties where Nestle claimed a 4-3 victory over their rivals.

Full Time: NESTLE 0 – 0 FRIESLANDCAMPINA (4 – 3 PENS)

The action continues on Sunday, 1 September 2019 at the Yaba Tech Sports Complex as – FrieslandCampina and FCMB battle for third place and Nestle and Unilever battle to be crowned “Champion of Champions” in the finals.
