The much anticipated 2019 edition of the Remita Corporate Champions Cup finally kicked off at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex on Sunday, 18th August 2019.

The Championship, which is in its 5th season focuses on achieving a healthier work-life balance, Bonding, Networking in within and between Corporate organization in a competitive yet friendly atmosphere.

The Opening Ceremony was graced by dignitaries and top executives;

Peter Rufai “Dodo Mayana” – Tournament Ambassador/ Ex-International

Bimpe Ayo – Elias – Human Resources, SystemSpecs

Comfort Adebiyi – Senior Consultant, SystemSpecs

Mr Andrew Ikekua – ED, Marketing Nem Insurance

Frances Diribe – Senior Compliance Manager, Union Bank

The day featured 4 exciting matches from across our various Industry Games Winners – Nigeria Bankers Games, Nigeria Telecoms Games, Nigeria FMCG Games and the Nigeria Insurance Games.

 

 

Campus Challenge: YABATECH VS LASU

The event included a Campus Challenge match between the host community, YabaTech Football Team and the Lagos State University (LASU) Football Team to precede the opening match. The match ended on penalties 4-3 in favour of the LASU.

 

 

 

IHS Towers VS Unilever Nig

The Opening match of the day saw the Telecoms defending champions – IHS Towers took on FMCG Games first runner-up Unilever. The IHS team seems physically superior to the Unilever team but that didn’t deter the fighting spirit of the Unilever team.  The breakthrough, however, came in the 15th minute when Ebuka Daniel rifled in a shot after beating his marker. Unilever went on to notch two more goals with Moses Alonge in the 21st and 43rd minutes respectively

Nestle VS Union Bank

The second match witnessed the FMCG defending champions – Nestle Nigeria tackled the Last season Nigeria Bankers Games runner-up Union Bank. The match started in an emphatic fashion with both teams sizing each other up while the Milo boys testing their opposing goalkeeper – Oluwafemi Owolabi who made fantastic saves at the first half.

The Second half turned out differently as Nestle hit Three (3) goals past the Union Bank defence by Bende Chukwudi 31st, Adebari Kamuru 36th and Ayeola Daramola 47th minutes. Union Bank fought to create many chances but couldn’t convert those beautiful opportunities.

HEADLINE PERFORMER: LIL KESH

The young and getting it crooner thrilled the crowd with his famous hit singles from his debut album, YAGI (Young And Getting It) as well as some other hit collaborations. The crowd was on their feet from the beginning till the end as they sang along to all his songs. The crowd’s energy inspired a great performance from the former YBNL prodigy. His performance was one to remember.

 

 

FCMB VS Nem Insurance

The third match of the tournament involved the 2018 NBG & RC3 runner-up, FMCB and the Corporate Nigeria Games returnee – Nem Insurance. The first half saw FCMB took the lead via a composed pass from Emmanuel Opotoki to Eze Odinaka who placed the ball in the net in the 25th minute.

At the second half, FCMB lads came stronger and created more chances but determined NEM boys defend their home strongly.

FrieslandCampina VS MTN

The last match of the round saw the 2018 RC3 reigning Champions – FrieslandCampina battle with Telecoms giant, MTN. Friesland Campina began the match at the forefront, bossing possession and scoring within the first 10 minutes of the game when Ayinde Suleiman dribbled the goalkeeper to score the first goal. The Veteran Hall of Fame & MTN Captain – Joseph Akpata strongly defended and man his position but the early goal unbalanced the MTN team who tried to no avail to make a comeback but could not convert and things were made more difficult when Friday Okoronkwo – FrieslandCampina scored the second goal in the 23rd minutes.

Friday Okoronkwo – FrieslandCampina narrowly secured a spot-kick which was converted by Ayinde Sulaimon in the 55th minutes into the second half of the game.
