Nigeria FMCG Games

The 2019 Nigeria FMCG Games which continued last weekend at the Yabatech Sports Complex was action-packed with two football matches, table tennis action and the debut of the highly anticipated Video Games event.

Seven-Up V Guinness

The football matches kicked off with Nigeria FMCG Games debutants – Seven-Up taking on Guinness. Guinness looked sharper at the beginning of the match pressing and dictating the pace of the game and broke the deadlock just before the half-time interval through Erute Eghagara, his second of the 2019 season. The match presented a more open and balanced second half with both teams creating multiple chances. Seven-Up’s Samson Emawodia scored a scorcher of a freekick to level things at one all but a brace from Guinness’ Taofeek Balogun sealed the game for Guinness’ first victory of the season and indeed the Nigeria FMCG Games.

Nestle takes V  FrieslandCampina

The second and final match of the day saw reigning champions – Nestle takes on FrieslandCampina. Nestle came into the game with a 100 per cent record in their first two games of the season having not conceded a single goal, their opponents were looking to continue their winning form from their last outing. The game was goalless at the half, both goalkeepers doing just enough to keep their teams in the game. Owolabi Samson opened the scoring right after the half time break and Oge Anizor doubled FrieslandCampina’s lead five minutes later. The pressure was on the defending champions to mount a comeback and the top goalscorer of the competition so far – Bilesanmi Adebayo pulled one back for his team from the penalty spot. Just before the final whistle, Friday Okoronkwo scored FrieslandCampina’s third to seal the three points and also move FrieslandCampina into the top spot.
