GTBank – Lagos State Principals Cup

The finals of the GTBank- Lagos State Principals Cup was held on Thursday 19th July, 2018 at the Agege Stadium. The event was attended by several dignitaries from the sponsors, GTBank, Lagos State Ministry of Sports and Ministry of Education, among others notable personalities.

FEMALE MATCH 

The finals started off with a tough encounter between Isale Eko Senior Grammar School, Lagos Island and Girls Senior High, Agege. The latter had a lot to do defensively as the Lagos Island girls piled on pressure on their opponents for most part of the game. But the game ended goalless in regular time thanks to resilient defending from the home team (Girls Senior High, Agege).

With the game ending goalless in regular time, the referee signaled that the eventual female champions of GTBank- Lagos State Principals Cup Season 9 be decided through the lottery of penalties.

The Isale Eko Girls continued their brilliant displays even through penalties, winning by four goals to two to be crowned Female Champions of GTBank – Lagos State Principals Cup Season 9.

Owolarafe Mariam won the Most Valuable Player Award as a reward for her contribution to  Isale Eko Senior Grammar School’s victory.

MALE MATCH 

Having set the tone, the Male finals of GTBank – Lagos State Principals Cup Season 9 between Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School, Ojokoro and Elepe Community Senior High School, Ikorodu also lived up to its expectations.

The game started off with shaky displays between both sides as they struggled to make impact early on in the encounter. The home team scored in both halves to secure a memorable victory despite Elepe boys’ effort to come back in the game during the second half of the final.

Raheem Habeeb was awarded the Most Valuable Player for his brilliance for Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School.

ENTERTAINMENT

Dance Na the Main Thing (DNMT) gave an outstanding performance at the interlude between the girls and the boys final match.

Performances from Nigerian hiphop artistes, Mr Real and Slimcase ensured the crowd never got bored of the game during halftime of the Male encounter.

PRIZE MONEY

In line with these results, Winners’ Cheques were presented to the following schools:

N500,000 each
 4th   Ajeromi Ifelodun Senior High School N250,000 each
