After 4 weeks of non-stop sporting action, the 6th edition of the Nigeria Telecoms Games came to an end on Saturday, 24th September 2016, with a highly thrilling football final which saw 2015 finalist, IHS emerge champions after defeating 3-time champion, MTN.

The match was a replay of the 2015 finals, but this time, team MTN who were in the battle to win the football trophy back to back became silver medalists, while IHS on the hand were able to payback for the 2015 loss to MTN.

In the 3rd place match between 2-time champion, Etisalat and Ericsson, team Etisalat emerged bronze-medalists after a lone goal against Ericsson.

The closing ceremony also featured a novelty match between First Bank and Eco Bank, which ended in a goalless draw.

Gold, silver and bronze medallists of other events (athletics, chess, scrabble, lawn tennis, table tennis – doubles and singles) went home with gifts and medals presented by MediaVision Limited’s COO, Jimmy Sogbesan.

After the exciting season of the Nigeria Telecoms Games, Chima Nnorom, team Secretary for Etisalat noted – “It feels good to have been part of the competition. It’s a great avenue to get people to socialise, have fun and keep fit”.

On what his team will do to perform better in the next season, he said – “We’ll go back to the drawing board and redress where we made mistakes”.

At the close of the games, Team Etisalat emerged the Overall Champions of the Nigeria Telecoms Games, 2016 with 6 Gold, 6 Silver and 4 Bronze medals, thereby successfully defending the crown they won in 2015.
