DUFIL PRIMA         1 – 2  UNILEVER

The FMCG games entered match day 3 on Saturday 21, June 2014 at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos.

The defending champions Dufil Prima were up against Unilever in a win or bust game for Unilever. Dufil were the bookmakers pick to win this tie. For one they are the defending champions and many have not forgotten their inspirational play of last season.

With 3 points in the bag, courtesy a 1 – 0 win over PZ Cussons in their first game, it was difficult to bet against them winning again.

The game started at a frenetic pace with Unilever taking the game to Dufil Prima. Unilever kept carving out chances but each time were foiled by either the defensive alertness of Dufil or the offside trap. These turned out to be signs of what was to come. The deadlock was eventually broken when, defender Akintade Dayo broke the offside trap to slot the ball beyond goalkeeper Tosin Oyewole for the first goal. The first half ended with Unilever leading 1 – 0 and with one foot in the final. The second half started on the same note as Unilever kept pressurizing Dufil, they were however dealt a harsh blow when, Tunde Oladokun was given the marching orders for retaliation.

Down to 10 men, the odds were now heavily stacked against Unilever who tried to up the ante, but met a resilient Unilever.  A few minutes after the red card, a delectable back heel by Idowu Okunola released Akintade Dayo again with a clear sight of target and he duly took the opportunity to unleash a rocket that once again found goalkeeper Tosin Oyewole wanting.

A late goal by Dufil only turned out to be a consolation goal.

MVP: AKINTADE DAYO
