The Nigeria Telecoms Games kicked off on Saturday 19th of July, 2014 at the Legacy pitch of the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos.
The opening was a befitting one filled with colour as all the participating teams came out in their various colours. The whole event started with a march past by all the teams, which included the football champions Etisalat and the Overall champions.
After the march past by the teams, the opening speech was then delivered by the CEO of MediaVision limited, who then charged the teams to compete with the spirit of the games, which is fairplay. He also prayed the best team win.
On the day three matches were played. The opening match was an invitational between Zenith Bank and Online giants Konga.
The way the two teams competed was anything but a novelty as they both showed enterprising play with a desire to win.
Konga got the opening goal, but Zenith Bank who are expected to play in the Nigeria Bankers Games scheduled for August replied almost immediately. The tie ended 1 – 1.
The official opening match of the competition pitched football champions Etisalat against LM Ericsson. The tie ended 2 – 0 in favour of Etisalat while the biggest shock came in the other game between Airtel and MTN. Airtel scoring an early goal went on to win the tie 1 – 0.
The next round of matches comes up in two weeks’ time.
