SWIPHA 1 – 1 FIRST BANK
As the inaugural edition of the Nigeria Pharma Games approaches, preparations by teams has hit the next gear. Top of the bill is Pharmaceutical giants Swipha, who in view of the upcoming competition took on First Bank in a game to open the 2014 FMCG games.
For both teams it was not just another game. Pride was at stake even though it also served as a tune up match for them. It was First Bank who drew first blood as they piled on the early pressure on SWIPHA. The goal came in the early stages of the game and it spurred SWIPHA into action as they took the game to First Bank in search of an equalizer.
As the game wore on it was clear to see that the equalizer was in the horizon, thanks to the industry and enterprise of the SWIPHA team. It wasn’t long in coming, but when it came, it was due to a huge slice of luck. A defensive blunder from First Bank saw SWIPHA beat the offside trap to score.
Both sides put in more in the second half, but every attack was well thwarted by a well co-ordinated defense.
The game may have ended in a draw, but if SWIPHA’s performance is anything to go by, then the Nigeria Pharma Games is worth waiting for. The captain of First Bank however believes his side is well on its way to surpassing the levels they reached last year.
