GTBank Masters Cup

Draws for the 2017/18 GTBank Masters Cup (Season 7) commenced with the opening remarks by Mr Jimmy Sogbesan, who welcomed everyone while also thanking Guaranty Trust Bank for its continued support of grassroots football. He acknowledged the defending Champions (Male and Female Categories) – St. Finbarr’s College and Queens College – for their outstanding performance in Season 6.   

Mr Sogbesan went further to outline the significance of ‘number 7’ and assured that the 7th season of the GTBank Masters Cup is going to be a unique and special tournament.

Mrs. Modupe Philips from GTBank restated that the objective of this competition is to provide a platform for youths to showcase their football talent.

Mrs. R.O. Yussuf, Chairperson, LAFGHECA, appreciated the sponsors and wished all the participating schools the best of luck in the competition. She also thanked St. Finbarr’s College for hosting the event.

The Draws

The draws had 26 teams in the male category and 16 teams in the female category.

Six (6) new schools will be making their appearance in the competition:

  • Atlantic Hall, Epe
  • Avi-Cenna International School, Ikeja
  • Bellina College, Yaba
  • Grange School, Ikeja
  • Igbobi College, Yaba
  • Reagan Memorial Baptist Girls’ Secondary School, Yaba

In giving the vote of thanks, Miss Toyosi Akinlabi, a student of Chrisland School, Ikeja appreciated GTBank for its commitment to the competition while also thanking principals and teachers for their effort in developing young minds.
