Another exciting football season is here again in the Nigeria Telecommunications Industry. The Nigeria Telecoms Games season 4 will kick off this Saturday 19th July, 2014 at the legacy pitch of the National stadium Surulere Lagos,Nigeria.Telecoms heavyweights will once again compete for honours in the biggest sporting event in the industry.
2013 season
It will be recalled that at the end of the 3rd edition in 2013
There were 2 debutants – Airtel and Alcatel – lucent
Etisalat ended MTN’s dominance in the football event by winning their first even football trophy after seasons of asking.
MTN maintained their overall dominance as they emerged Overall Champions for a 3rd straight season
Alcatel – lucent won the Bronze medal in the football event in their first season
Etisalat and MTN represented the Telecoms Industry at the 2014 Corporate Nigeria Games
2014 season
THE TEAMS ARE READY
Its 2014, season 4 and the stakes are higher. All the teams have been preparing in earnest for another exciting sports fiesta. All the teams are in high spirits and talking tough.
Airtel whose debut season can best be described as a learning phase have been training hard, building and building a formidable team that can challenge for the title. Team Captain; Adeleye Tejuosho had this to say “the 2014 NTG will not be a 2 horse race as in previous editions. We are battle ready to give all contenders a run for their money”
LM Ericsson has also been putting finishing touches to their campaign plan. This season, they will look to emerge from the shadows of MTN and Etisalat. They are hungry for success and are determined to lay their hands on the much coveted football trophy at the 4th time of asking.
Alcatel – lucent. Against all odds Alcatel-lucent clinched bronze medal in the football event last season, they shook off stiff opposition from LM Ericsson and Airtel to perform the historic feat. They would still need all the determination, team play and a good measure of luck to stay in contention this season.
MTN would surely be rebuilding after seeing their dominance in the football event end last year. Season opener Remita corporate champions’ cup 2014 didn’t go as planned for them so they have gone to the proverbial drawing board and ready with a strategy to reclaim the football crown and consolidate on their overall winners title.
Etisalat, fresh from their Championship run last season, went all the way to the finals of the 2014 Corporate Champions Cup in April, where they narrowly lost NBG defending champions, Skye Bank. They will be looking to emulate MTN by successfully defending their football trophy. They have vowed to also wrest the overall winners crown this year.
As the teams prepare to march out this weekend on Saturday, the questions that will be begging for answers are –
Can Etisalat, haven tasted victory, successfully defend the football crown?
Will MTN re-emerge to claim back the title?
Can the trio of Airtel, LM Ericsson and Alcatel – lucent shake things up and lay claim to the football diadem?
The venue for this season’s football showdown is the Legacy Pitch, inside the National Stadium, Surulere, and Lagos.
